About me

Growing up with a love of art

I was lucky enough to grow up in Cornwall, where I was mentored by renowned artist John Miller, who taught me the importance of creativity. I also wouldn’t have gone down the creative career path if it wasn’t for my wonderful Art Teacher, Mr Heseltine. He taught me the history of art, the value of hard work, and how to be a great teacher and inspire others.

From University to Advertising

After getting my degree in graphic design from Kingston University, I decided to switch my career focus (this happens a lot!) and pursue a job in advertising. I adored the energy, creativity and people and, after a slow start, was fortunate enough to create high-profile work for Kellogg’s, McDonald’s and my favourite brand since I was a kid, Nintendo!

My Coaching Addiction

During my decade in Advertising, I spent my weekends playing and, thanks to an ACL injury, coaching Football. I went all in and got my coaching badges through the London FA whilst working at Fulham FC (working my way up to the academy standard UEFA B License). This experience taught me valuable lessons about teaching, mentoring and motivation, which helped me in my next career move.

Becoming a Hotelier

It was time to return to Cornwall. My family needed help with our hotel and restaurant, and what was meant to be a two-year stint before returning to London turned into 12 years in the blink of an eye. During that time, I learned how to build culture, manage people and the principles behind running a successful business (we received international recognition, won a Michelin star and were on TV). It was here that my work ethic was built as I maintained my link to the creative industry through freelancing in the evenings and weekends. This decision paid huge dividends when it was time to set up my own studio.

Starting my own Studio

Although daunting, starting my own Studio has been immensely rewarding and has led to some wonderful opportunities, including working on TV shows for Sky and branding for Conor McGregor, JJ Watt and Pete Correale. But my proudest moment was working for NYDG in New York, which led to partnerships with the United Nations and Sesame Street, and even having my own billboards in Times Square!

Freelance Mentor

All of this now brings me to my latest career shift and back to the world of education and mentorship, where I’m able to combine a life of zig-zagging to help ambitious freelancers and designers build a life and career that they are proud of, doing work that matters for clients that care.

My Purpose
